Sheffield to Host First Women's Wheelchair RL FestivalSheffield to Host First Women’s Wheelchair RL Festival

This Saturday, Sheffield will host the first women’s wheelchair RL festival. On May 11, the Sheffield Eagles and the Rugby Football League will co-host the inaugural Women’s Wheelchair Rugby League Festival.

Entrance begins at 12:30 pm, and the event will be held at Sheffield’s Concord Leisure Centre from 1 to 3 pm.

Prior to game play being available to all participants in the second hour of the tournament, England Head Coach Tom Coyd, MBE, will oversee a carousel of coaching stations during the first hour.

Women who have never played wheelchair rugby league before or who would like to try it out for the first time are welcome to attend this free event.

Prior to the 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup Final, we organized a minor Wheelchair Rugby League tournament just for women.

“We held a small women-only Wheelchair Rugby League taster event ahead of the 2023 Betfred Challenge Cup Final,” said Martin Coyd, OBE, General Manager of England Wheelchair RL. “There was a great deal of interest, and many of the participating ladies expressed that they enjoyed playing in a mixed-gender setting as well as that we should consider doing future events exclusively for women. In response, we are holding the event on May 11th. It will be the first of several exciting new events that are exclusively for women and will happen at all stages of the road.

For Blades, “one of the biggest transfer windows” is approaching.

More from Chris Wilder, the manager of Sheffield United, regarding the selection of Mike Allen as the team’s new leader in recruitment and Jamie Hoyland as the team’s chief scout for the first team: “Paul Mitchell, the former head of recruiting for the Blades, has received a lot of positive press.

“It’s critical that the players we bring in are both good players and decent people from a recruitment standpoint.

“Happy to get Hoyland and Allen in, the boys. We have conducted numerous interviews for it.

“They might assist us with arguably one of the biggest transaction windows in the last few years.”
